We came in contact with the DH House through a very close client, who wanted to build a special affordable budget retirement home for him and his wife.With this as the starting point, the project takes a simple form with many low tech design strategies to reach its current state.
With an overall area of nearly 2000㎡, the project is located at 6F-8F, Jinjue Plaza, Nangang District, Harbin. At the beginning of the design, we were inspired by Greater Khingan Mountains where new lives are bred under snow in Winter, the land is fertile, sunshine is opulent, water is abundant, and everything is full of vigor in Spring. We adopt natural and simple materials to make people feel kind and warm, and using wood grain, steel structure and gorgeous color interspersed locally in performance, which are fantastic and powerful.
One hall interpreting two themes
This very project found its place among the crowded dormitory buildings of Nanjing University of the Arts. What used to be the public rooms on the ground floor of the original No.46 dormitory is ready to be renovated and expanded into a two-story art exhibition hall. The lower floor is assigned to ” the Exhibition Hall of Ancient Ceramics Researches”, and the upper floor ” the Exhibition Hall of Ancient Oil Painting Restoration “. The two halls representing for two themes, Chinese culture and western culture, are designed to be separated and to be managed independently.
After the “Seashore Library” and “Seashore Chapel”, “Restaurant y Sea” completes the trilogy of Vector Architects’ seashore series at Aranya Community in Beidaihe New District. The restaurant is situated right behind the library across the beach. We initiated the design by investigating how to create a coexisting relationship with the mighty solid library volume.
Yiwu Foreign Languages School, designed by the LYCS Architecture, is now in use and has just completed its first semester.It is located in the main urban area of Yiwu, Zhejiang Province,with 48 classes of elementary schools and 24 classes of junior high schools. As the first project of returned overseas Chinese, it’s also one of the typical practices of teaching space design issuesComfort scale in high density urban that have been continuously researched by LYCS Architecture.
Overview
Shenyao Art Center is transformed from an old factory to an innovation art park displaying ceramic art works. In the second phase of this project, our main strategy is to renovate existing structure of the south dormitory building while adding volumes to the north. New volumes are inserted but flexibly placed inside the factory to reconfigure the internal space, satisfying the needs of programs while at the same time enriching the playfulness of the space. On the perspective of aesthetic interpretation, the series curved spaces soften the original order.
HEYTEA has made tea drinking a very cool and fashionable thing to do, and has attracted more and more young Chinese to embrace tea culture and take tea drinking as a part of their life.
The owner rented a yard in the hutong and asked us to design a teahouse garden. It is hoped that the gardens will include the elements of traditional gardens and have the true feeling of traditional gardens. It is not allowed to change the plane position of the original building and hope to have a phoenix tree.
Located in Rongcheng, Shandong province, Swan Lake Park is a natural wetland near the Yellow Sea, flat and vast, with reed spreading wildly and water streams meandering. Every October, groups of swans migrate south to this site from Siberia. This magnificent scene, as well as the beautiful landscape of the wetland, attracts large groups of tourists. The local government wishes to build a public facility that provides tourists with services such as viewing and catering.
Shijiazhuang International Convention & Exhibition Center in Zhengding New District of Shijiazhuang city covers an area of 64.4 hectares and a floor space of 359,000 m2, including 229,000 m2 above ground. All areas for conventions and exhibitions extend along the hub in the shape of the fishbone. The multi-elevation pedestrian system facilitates the diversion of people, vehicles and goods. The exhibition area incorporates seven standard exhibition halls covering an area of 11,000 m2 each and one large multi-purpose exhibition hall of 26,000 m2. Boasting a floor space of 110,000 m2, the exhibition area has been the world’s largest exhibition hall featuring the cable-suspended structure.
