Smart Tree was born from a research project of the University of Malaga with the objective of recycling elements from the demolition of campus buildings to improve teaching environments college. Smart Tree is conceived as a biotechnological tree whose mission is to rehabilitate the outdoor spaces of the university, promoting its use through the creation of green environments and connective services. Mira House / Arturo Sanz

We refurbished this traditional house in order to improve the functional conditions and to modify the spaces, this way providing better flow, but at the same time, we didn’t want to forget to anchor or connect the intervention to the memory of the place. To achieve this, we had to rescue a large part of the pre-existing elements: the façade, recovering the original arches in the gaps, the interior masonry wall with brick arches, the interior doors, the hydraulic tiles used for the floors were relocated to form carpet-like patterns, the dividing walls of masonry on the patio, the carved ashlars found in the excavation were reused to form a water path.

Refurbishment Oñati Campus / nimba studio + KREAN

May 11, 2021 Clara Ott 0

The challenge of the refurbishment of the Business Faculty at the University of Mondragón in Oñati (Gipuzkoa) consisted of adapting the existing spaces to the needs of the users and to current learning methodologies. For this, we devised a participatory design process including all the parties involved (students, teachers, and administrative staff) to define a Strategic Design Brief for the building. The existing traditional classrooms were transformed into open, flexible, and connected spaces that foster innovative educational experiences and methodologies.
