From a historic brewery to an apartment building with a dynamic copper facade. Brewhouse Apartments is a symbol of the transformation of a city quarter in the very heart of Warsaw. The building grew to become a dominant element of the new, city-forming project – Warsaw Breweries. It stands out with its facade, which is made of mobile shutter panels in a copper color. These panels allow the facade to change its form, which in turn, makes the entire building feel more alive. It was designed by the Warsaw JEMS Architects studio.

Accommodating around 1000 students, the Konrad Lorenz Secondary School is the largest building complex in the city of Gänserndorf in Lower Austria. However, the existing somber school, with its single-story classroom wings and long corridors, was no longer fit for the task. So we developed a new spatial concept for a total of 40 classes. We renovated and adapted the existing buildings to the north and south and inserted a new connecting structure between them, which resulted in a modern and friendly school ensemble where teachers and pupils can feel at home.

Boston College Hoag Pavilion / Sasaki

Boston College needed an updated facility to support the men’s and women’s basketball programs and provide program elements for player recruitment and development. This creative addition and renovation of the Conte Forum arena provided all of the key program elements for much less cost and resources than building an entirely new facility while allowing the teams to continue practicing and training in the same facility where they compete. The improvement upgraded one of the prime entrances to the arena and only required a small sliver of additional land, which is barely perceivable as an encroachment on the improved plaza.

Viennese call the districts north of the Danube “Transdanubia.” What sounds like a world far removed from contemporary urbanity is in fact a budding neighbourhood with bustling construction activity. Our primary and secondary school on Leopold-Kohr-Straße in Kagran, situated between a business park, recent housing estates, and the Ostbahn railway, sets a new anchor point in the district’s urban development. With its lively forecourt and play and sports areas, which can also be used by local residents, the school adds a new quality to the neighborhood. Spacious, covered terraces transform the façade into a vertical garden and articulate important spaces for learning and leisure, which can be used all year round.

Libocká Street, which borders the historic Hvězda (Star) Game Reserve on the north side and slopes down from Petřiny to Libocká Pond and Litovický Creek, is not very welcoming at first glance. From the south side, it is defined by fragmented original terraced housing supplemented by the remains of grand suburban villas from the late 19th century. Its northern edge is formed in part of its length by a terrain break and a downward slope.
