The Slatted Extension / YARD

August 20, 2021 Alexandria Bramley 0

We were asked to resolve a problem with the layout of a house in the Whitehall Park Conservation Area in Islington. The house had wonderful high ceilings and well proportioned reception rooms, but the kitchen was very compromised. It was housed in an old side return extension and accessed through a warren of other rooms. It was too small and low, didn’t relate well to the dining room and was cut off from the other rooms in the house, accessed down a small flight of steps.  The owners wanted a generous, multifunctional family space where they could enjoy time together.

The building structure represents a  demand for various typology of housing. A variety of apartment sizes and floor plan typologies are offered, ranging from small flat apartments, family apartments with roof terraces to terraced house typologies. The residential alley as a central spatial element on site shows the differentiated relationship between public space and the private space of the apartment with a threshold formation on different levels. The alley makes it possible to walk through and to come into contact with the surroundings. The use of the ground floor at important locations in terms of urban development through public use as a daycare center, hairdresser’s shop or a common room  for parties is available to all residents of the neighborhood enabling public life on site.

Hunt Studio / Hunt Architecture

With two young kids at home, it became clear that our modest 1940’s bungalow was too small for our growing family and architecture practice. We needed more space and had plenty of it in our backyard. We decided to build an ADU on our property to house our architecture office and a guest suite. At the time, we never imagined how valuable this kind of workspace would become during a global pandemic.

Artest Restaurant / VETER

August 15, 2021 Alexandria Bramley 0

A small two-story mansion with the shaded terrace in Trubnikovsky lane. And the first fine dining restaurant of signature dishes by Arkadiy Novikov in partnership with chef Atrem Estafev. Embarking on the project, we were astonished at the uniqueness of the client’s vision which was not made up of clichéd models of already existing restaurants.
