The CDC Community Development Center is an architectural complex where a series of social assistance services are offered, which favor the welfare and social participation of the population, through programs that promote a better organization and interrelation of the community. Through the CDC it is possible to contribute to the integral development of families and communities, from a perspective of gender, through programs for indigenous peoples and vulnerable groups, contributing to the improvement of public safety and the conservation of the environment, through the education of the population.

This social project seeks to resolve the lack of a multipurpose space within a private, non-partisan, ecumenical, and non-profit NGO called “La Casa del Niño Encuentro”. This NGO not only provides school, health, and educational support in general but also breakfast, snacks, and lunch to children between 3 and 12 years old.

Description courtesy of Alfonso Fierro. Envisioned for a growing family, the house proposes a form of dwelling organized around a continuous dialogue with the landscape in which it is located. The dark exterior grants it a solid stature, while simultaneously evoking the possibility of a home carved in the interior of a rock formation. Certain formal gestures complement this suggestion, like the sectioning of the house’s volumes that hints at the form of a crack, or the windows that appear sporadically, yet with a balanced rhythm, in different parts of the wall. Furthermore, the tour inside proposes a game of changing lights and shadows, with paths that open and close, tighten and widen, and flow into open spaces that secure both fresh air and privacy.

YPY 1731 Housing / Arqtipo + Paola Castelnuovo

The YPY 1731 building houses a collective housing complex of eleven units located in the San Martin district. The work is located in a typical block of purely residential use in the Province of Buenos Aires. The building takes the neighborhood scale in its front and quiet part, generating a large west-facing patio, solving various common brick planes from screens, to generate gradients that respond to the different uses, private, semi-public and public of the program.

Last Chance for a Slow Dance Covered Public Space / Behark

This is how Fugazi’s song, Last Chance for a Slow Dance, began, and that was the feeling we had at the beginning of what was finally going to be the last stage in the construction of Larrabetzu’s little aterpe. Several years had passed before, those of the toughest crisis, with different projects for different use proposals, archaeological interventions, some unexpected events and even a contractor unable to carry out the intervention to a successful conclusion. Before resuming the works, the building had to be redesigned again, to leave it the same it was at the beginning, but solving the problems generated in the disastrous first phase of its construction. It was indeed the last chance for a slow dance.

Casa Ananda / OWN

Ananda is a complex of 13 townhouses of 210.00m2 each, located in Mérida, Yucatán. The project covers a lot of 2,215.00m2 and is developed in a uniform volumetry sectioned by openings and solids that jointly accommodate pedestrian accesses and carports. Creating contrast through materials and textures generated by three-dimensional triangles, based on sacred geometry, the pattern of the flower of life is formed as a ventilated facade, which provides shade, privacy and controlled ventilation through perforations of different scales.

Three³ House / Meraki Arquitectura + Diseño

The name of the house responds to its modulation: three modules wide, three modules long and three modules tall. On the lateral space of the second middle volume, a garden takes center stage throughout the three floors of the house, showering the spaces with natural light. A perforated brick wall creates a show of lights and shadows on the boundary on the side. The connecting bridges on the top floor, same as the one that goes through the interior garden in the access, create a circulation meant for enjoying the greenery and natural light captured in the interior spaces.

The project is a piece within a larger system articulated in an exceptional property of the urban layout, two unified blocks belonging to a religious community constitute a plot of 160m by 80m. The complex contains a church, a hospice, a day center, a “Way of the Cross”, a grotto and some outbuildings, all articulated through a series of interconnected courtyards.

With the purpose of conducting the project, a retirement home, the clients found the ideal spot in a remote region, in which the main character would not be the architecture but the landscape itself. Keeping in mind these premises, 90% of the house was already solved; it only remained to propose the architecture of the house.
