Minty House, nestled among the classic Victorian terraces of West Hampstead, was transformed to meet the client’s desire for a more spacious, cohesive, and distinctive home. The project involved a complete refurbishment of the house, including a kitchen extension that fills in the side return and enhances the connection to the garden. The goal was to provide the extra space and design coherence the client sought, while also introducing a sense of flow and individuality to the property.

Stolon Studio has just completed its latest housing project, The Parks in Herefordshire, transforming a group of neglected, rural, agricultural buildings to provide eight, new sustainable homes in a beautifully landscaped setting. Originally a dairy farm, this assembly of rural timber-framed 15th and 16th-century buildings had fallen into disrepair and collapsed through long-term neglect. The project provides much-needed rural housing to address increasing local demand as well as for those turning away from city living. The Parks further develops Stolon’s ‘sociable housing’ concept, to provide an alternative rural typology to the isolated single home, offsetting rural loneliness and helping to nurture new communities. Built for a small, ethical developer, The Parks seamlessly combines old and new to create individual homes with shared, communal spaces including barns, gardens, wildlife areas and meadows.

An NGO, Round Table, is envisioned to provide study rooms for the students of Kochargaon Village. According to their survey, the village sorely lacked facilities for reading and learning, which has adversely affected the literacy rate. The chosen site was an old collapsed Aanganwadi that still had an undisturbed, stable plinth. That became our plot. It is located in the vicinity of the village’s main temple complex. The temple has a large covered pavilion (at road level) in front, for all the religious and public events of the community.
