Almost Perfect Days: Hirayama and Moriyama, a Double Vision of Architecture

As an architect I find it truly interesting to read cities and architecture through films, and this is why I went to see the latest film by one of my favourite directors Wim Wenders: Perfect Days. In Wenders’ cinema, his gaze over the city is always the protagonist. He possesses the remarkable ability to make the space of the photographic image the central focus of his filmmaking. It is not only the story that is important to him, but the time and space in which the story takes shape almost by chance.

Aeschi School / Haller Gut Architects

Our task was to create additional classrooms and group rooms for the school complex as well as rooms for the municipal administration. The existing complex consisted of 4 detached buildings from different decades. The small new building closes the gap between the existing school building and the workyard with classrooms on the upper floor.

The project site is located in the village of Weipo, a suburb of Luoyang, the ancient capital city of multiple dynasties in Chinese history. Surrounded by traditional courtyards and kiln houses preserved as housing museum, the area near old marketplace is expected to see revived community life, boosted by newly constructed boutique shops, cultural venues and recreational facilities.

Dragon-fly House / Barbara Berson + Horacio Sardin

The house designed and built on an island in the Paraná River delta is immersed in a forest of willows. Conceived as a dragonfly subtly perched on the land with stilts that, like delicate legs, elevate the house to protect it from the frequent rises in water levels.
