Secondary School in Herrischried / Spiecker Sautter Lauer Architekten

January 24, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

The two communities Rickenbach and Herrischried in the Black Forest region with a total of 6,600 residents, have joined forces to reorganise their school landscape. After winning the two design competitions in 2016, Spiecker Sautter Lauer Architects from Freiburg were commissioned to extend the existing school building in Rickenbach into a full-time primary school for both communities and to extend the existing school building in Herrischried into a secondary school for grades 5 to 10. The general increase in construction costs and problems with the supply of specific building products led to a longer planning and construction period. The building in Herrischried was completed in 2022.

Samon Villa / NaP studio

Northern Iran is known as a green area with vast and fertile lands. In the past, the urban structure of this area was defined in such a way that the lands had relatively large divisions with agricultural functions, and the houses were located in the center of these lands in dimensions and proportions smaller than the outer space. So, a major part of the residents’ activities flowed into outer space. But in recent years, the structure and division of land has undergone changes and has gradually become small. Today, the dimensions of the land have reached such a level that practically, after the construction of the building, there would not be much useful and usable space on the land, and it means the death of daily activities in outer space. In a way, by removing the open space in these houses, the special life and culture of this area, which was flowing in the outside space, has been completely destroyed.

Warmblack House / Greenbox Design

The context of the socialized neighborhood has recently changed in the city. We are strangers and newcomers; we have not grown or experienced life together. Therefore, we had to redefine the relationships between neighbors. The dependence on each other has influenced the result of this design. As we had no connection to the pedestrians and cars, we agreed that privacy should be managed on this side. However, we still need suitable natural sunlight for the building, so we designed this house in an L-shape. The letter has been divided into three parts, utilizing the benefits of these separations for suitable clerestory and air vents. Due to our left neighbor, we have designed to share the space together, sized 198 square meters, creating the atmosphere of an airy and open house.

House in the Backyard / 3dor Concepts

January 24, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

Openness in constraints: House in the backyard. ‘House in the backyard’- The name comes from its disposition with the client’s own homestead next to the site. The client approached us with the requirement of a 4-bedroom house and conducive amenities on a wedge-shaped site that tapered towards one side. The main challenge here was to design the spaces in such a way that they didn’t feel restricted by space while at the same time ensuring privacy for both families in the residence and in the homestead.

Tree’s House / Studio Bewell

January 23, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

The name ‘Tree’s House’ not only originated from the house owner’s passion for planting or the need for a green space in the house but also refers to ‘trees’ as the initial primary users with their roles from the design process to construction.  On the 99 square-wah land, the spaces were allocated to combine the residential and planting spaces, which directly created the building from its functions. In addition, there are over 7 courts of the planting area in the house that are harmonious with the owner’s lifestyles, both in terms of preferences and mutual benefits between trees and the residents.
