Montes Claros is a city located in the northern region of Minas Gerais, with intense economic activity and service offerings, constituting a regional center. Located on a more or less flat area 700m above sea level, the city is surrounded by a mountain range that rises to an altitude of 1,000m. This geographical condition establishes a horizon contained by hills with soft contours, which in some way refer to the name of the city itself.

A cabin stands on the edge of a hill overlooking the valley of Cota, a municipality in the savannah of Bogotá, at an altitude of 2566 meters above sea level. The house finds its origin in the story of another built in 2007 in Sisga, which served as the founding project of our office: a butterfly-cut cabin built with the selvages discarded by sawyers when cutting down a pine forest. The vocation to dispense with the unnecessary is the common thread that connects the questions of then with those of now, and as a whole with that appreciation of the primitive life that is in the promise of inhabiting a cabin.

The modernization of the Main Building of the Wybrzeże Theater in Gdańsk was a very difficult, arduous but also extremely fascinating task for me and my team. The studio’s portfolio includes theater, opera and performance buildings but none of them was so close and so personal to us.
