The Library for the Farmers. Plowing the fields on sunny days and reading books on rainy days… Library in the Earth is for such people. The site is located in a corner of KURKKU FIELDS, which is operated by an agricultural production corporation. The flat and dry land was sitting on top of a valley filled with construction debris.
In April 2019, a devastating fire engulfed the 860-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral in Pars, severely damaging its wooden roof and leading to the collapse of the 19th-century spire, originally designed by Viollet-le-Duc. Immediately after, French President Emmanuel Macron promised that the iconic monument would be restored in just 5 years, an ambitious deadline. As the restoration of the roof structures nears completion, in February 2023, the scaffolding for the reconstruction of the spire has been assembled. The Spire is expected to be finished by the end of the month.
Defending water as a human priority, and understanding its condition as an inexhaustible source of life that sustains existence, is the foundation upon which the consolidation and restoration works of the Tower of Water in Aledo are developed. These works have made it possible to discover new aspects of this magnificent defensive building, from where part of the history of the place can be uncovered. The tower that has reached our days is known as the Tower of Water and dates back to the 15th century. Its volumetric recovery is carried out faithfully to its original footprint, following techniques and using materials found in the medieval building.

Crafted by Wael Al Awar, founder and principal architect of waiwai, the initiative presents the three case studies and their significant evolution.
We are on the brink of concluding the hottest year in the past 125,000 years. Recently, elevated temperatures have adversely impacted the daily routines of a significant portion of the population, particularly those who spend most of their day outdoors without access to air-conditioned environments. Excessive heat stems from various sources, both natural and human-induced. Given the grim outlook on this matter, it becomes imperative to explore structural measures to address and mitigate the potential deterioration of public health caused by escalating temperatures.
As 2023 comes to an end, the future of our landscape is filled with visionary imaginations as a result of a year of forward-thinking design competitions. From revitalizing historical gems to designing new buildings, these global contests have pushed innovation further in the architecture industry. In fact, with each new competition, the boundaries of our living were challenged, reimagining what the future may accommodate or encourage.
The work is located in Jesús María, a relatively medium-scale city located 50 km from the capital of the province of Córdoba, Argentina. The city is characterized by a low-density fabric where the predominance of a logic of housing occupation by lots hinders the response to the high housing demand in the area. The project consists of a set of 4 housing units of 130 m2 on a corner lot of 420 m2 with a slope in the north/south direction towards the river that crosses the city.
Since I started studying, I always thought and designed mechanical systems to achieve a type of detachable construction that allows assembly without using power tools. I wanted to try something different from traditional wet construction.
The 70’ x 40’ plot is in a dense urban neighborhood facing a narrow South park. The primary residents are students and professionals. The density and narrow setbacks of the surrounding buildings resulted in sections that drew light from above. Interconnected volumes allow light to penetrate through the building. These volumes become internal courts that house common activities such as reading and dining while also forming pause points along the circulation of the building.
This is a reinforced concrete structured house for a family of 3. This house was required to respond flexibly to changes in their lifestyle and the store they own.
