In the context of WWI and to address the massive housing shortage resulting from the conflict, the Dom-Ino modular structure, one of the most significant contributions of functionalism and designed by the Swiss designers Le Corbusier and Max Dubois, established concrete premises for a new vision of a lightweight structural model that optimizes the construction process. Thanks to the use of a reinforced concrete slab and column system, the Dom-Ino structure allowed for the flexible arrangement of elements in the floor plan and freed the facade from the limitations imposed by load-bearing walls.

Hangzhou Riverfront Public Space -the Fengyuan Station / TJAD Original Design Studio

Located on the south bank of the Qiantang River in Hangzhou’s Binjiang District, the Fengyuan Station is a three-dimensional children’s paradise and a part of the 12-kilometer waterfront public space renovation project in Binjiang District of Hangzhou, undertaken by the Original Design Studio of TJAD. The Renovation of Children’s Paradise.To solve the problems of flat and monotonous cycling and running tracks, lack of connection between the hinterland and the riverside area, and limited service facilities, we have synchronously renovated the public space around the service station. The Fengyuan Station is the most unique service station. In the dense forest, we selected the original children’s activity venue and designed it in conjunction with the new service station and landscape.

KPMB tops horticultural centre with roof informed by Fibonacci spirals

A spiralling cable-net roof modelled in the image of a Fibonacci sequence tops a new public greenhouse designed by Canadian studio KPMB Architects in Winnipeg. Located in Assiniboine Park just outside downtown Winnipeg, the Leaf is a 35-acre (14-hectare) complex that includes a central greenhouse building and 30 acres (12-hectares) of public gardens and greenspace.

House in Okamoto / FujiwaraMuro Architects

This project is a house for a couple and their two children built on a long, narrow triangular site in a residential area on a sloping hillside. It is a common design practice on small sites to install walls as close to the site boundary as possible.
