The Sucre Boulevard is an urban renewal project located in the town of El Hatillo, located southeast of the city of Caracas. A place declared a national monument for its historical value and preservation of colonial architecture. An area with enormous tourist potential, but with severe deficiencies in connectivity and services.
The Oden Jiu-Jitsu Academy was commissioned by a client seeking a more inclusive and diverse space for the practice of gentle art. The academy’s design is inspired by the cultural and ritualistic aspects of the sport, creating a unique and inspiring environment for athletes of all levels.
Through a complete reconstruction, the dilapidated former open-air cinema with a huge capacity of 800 seats, was transformed into a functioning complex with a more sustainable capacity of 350. The shrinking of the grounds also allowed the creation of much-needed buffer areas between residential buildings and the cinema grounds, with the implementation of acoustic measures, and lastly the creation of a new connection between the surrounding residential complex and the nearby town center via Štěpánka’s Park.
