The project offers structure through the use of a courtyard rooted in both the site itself and its surrounding architecture. This court constitutes the bare essence of the building. On the one hand, the site of Vigla is characterized by its numerous traditional sheepfolds; composed of simple rectangular volumes adjoined to small courtyards that allow to increase the living space of the animals by associating the interior space to a larger outside space.
Ennead Architects has been enlisted to redefine the campus of The American School in Japan (ASIJ) to align the international school’s academic mission with its environment. Considered a heritage of the modern movement in Colombia, the Colpatria Tower rises in the San Diego sector of the renowned International Center of Bogotá. With 50 floors and a height of 196 meters, it was the tallest building in the country for many years until the construction of the BD Bacatá in 2016, also in Bogotá. The implementation of innovative construction techniques and its location at the intersection of two major arterial roads of the capital – Carrera Séptima and Avenida El Dorado (Calle 26) – made it an architectural landmark of the city. Its sober and assertive design contributed an unprecedented pattern to the urban profile in the 1970s.
Ever since humans started building (about 10,000 years ago), settlers looking for sites to build new villages or homesteads have kept a simple list of criteria: access to water, proximity to arable land, and, ideally, as flat as possible. Modern development sites instead look for industry and transport links rather than water and farmland, but a level site is still the preferred option.
During the preparation of the project, we found that, unlike abroad, most technical buildings in the Czech Republic are built without architectural care. Often there are distinctive and expensive buildings without a concept and context, where the potential to reveal their unique poetics has been lost. Together with the representatives of the Prague city district Lysolaje, we, therefore, set the basic thesis of the design at the beginning. Functionality, truthfulness, variability, sustainability, respect for the surroundings, quality of the indoor environment, and serving to educate became the main themes, which we further kneaded to obtain a balanced result.
Olimpo Nômade is an itinerant city for artists at a music festival. It is the place where musicians prepare before a performance and where they release tension with their peers after the concert or session. It is a lightweight, foldable, transportable, galactic city that, wherever it unfolds, must serve as the background and support for memorable experiences and mythical encounters.
Iron Creek Bay Farm Stay has breathed new life into an existing farm that is ready to take the next step in agricultural development and provide a high-quality example of mixed uses co exiting on the same parcel of land. The proposal is about creating a farm stay accommodation linked with a farm store/ farm restaurant to develop agricultural synergies that operate on the farm.
