Selenite Dreams Installation / BUREAU

May 31, 2023 Valeria Silva 0

Plaster, the extracted form of gypsum, essentially composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate, appears as a good figuration of the BUREAU’s general attitude towards architecture. If we were to define ourselves as minor architects, following Jill Stoner’s book «Towards a minor architecture», working with what is considered a minor material seems quite d’à-propos. It is one that has been utilized to prefigure and anticipate masterpieces in the numerous “galéries des plâtres” around the world, fabricating figurative positive molds of definite sculptures, forever “graved in stone”. The plaster seems more malleable, elastic, and fragile.

The shop where the host loves to stay. Humans live, being affected by the environment around them. From the person next to us or the place they stay, we interact with influences around us. For our client who takes over 70% of their time at the shop every day, we can’t stress more the importance of the environment they are in. We considered that this space should be more comfortable and adorable than anywhere, for making them enjoy their stay, which will result in our clients welcoming customers pleasantly enough. We wanted to differentiate our space from the one distancing from freshness where there are not enough windows and lights, like a department store.

WA House / Curiosity

May 30, 2023 Pilar Caballero 0

Gwenael Nicolas has created a modern fisherman’s house, iconic in appearance but modest in scale, in the stunning natural setting of Wakayama, one of Kansai’s leading resorts. It is located on the coast of Nanki-Shirahama, which is also a national park. Situated on a rugged rocky coast reminiscent of the Atlantic Ocean, where Nicolas was born, the house has been carefully designed in collaboration with Haretoke Architects. It confronts nature while accepting its challenge. The linear, single-story house is designed so that the height of the building almost coincides with the ocean horizon, so as not to overwhelm nature. The character of the house is created by the unique shape of the wing-like roof, which is designed to withstand the extreme winds as the house faces the ocean.
