Wonderland Cafe / XIAO.DESIGN

May 28, 2023 Collin Chen 0

The location of the project is far away from the busy streets. If the architectural structure is classified as single layer, the utilization rate is not high; if it is classified as double layer, the space is not enough, the designers will burst out inspiration between this sense of contradiction and challenge, combined with the commercial needs, turn the old into the new, and create a simple style. The image of the original doors and Windows is filtered out, and five circles are arranged horizontally, with three-dimensional stretching processing. Combined with internal and external linkage, a distinctive facade is interlinked, interspersed with curved glass enclosed interior space.

Lessin Tower development is situated in the central heart of Tel Aviv within walking distance to the Mediterranean beaches & sea, the new tower belt district, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art & Hayarkon Park, west, east, south & north respectively. Located in a predominantly residential neighborhood, the tower development also encompasses within its vicinity the light restoration of Beit Lessin, a 3 story mid-century structure, exemplifying the cultural ideals and architectural aesthetics of the time. Influenced by global & local themes alike, those include the simplicity of volumes, the brut honesty of concrete and stucco, and the rhythmic manipulation of form ingrained with brise soleil sensibilities responding to climatic conditions such as wind and sun. Building on those themes, Lessin Tower contrasts and reinvents its own.

Princeton University Residential Colleges / TenBerke

May 27, 2023 Andreas Luco 0

TenBerke has completed two new residential colleges at Princeton University, each serving 510 students. The 485,000 square-foot project sits on 11 acres and represents a major expansion of the campus and a first step in their 2026 Campus Framework Plan. The project is TenBerke’s most ambitious completed work to date—not just in size but also in mission. Since opening in the fall of 2022, it has given architectural expression to Princeton’s commitment to ground its social life in a campus characterized by inclusion and belonging. As a capstone project in Princeton’s 40-year implementation of a residential college system—the buildings are the seventh and eighth colleges on campus—it achieves the university’s longstanding objective to have all undergraduates affiliated (and, for the most part, living in) four-year residential colleges. By strengthening social identities through the residential college community, the project recenters campus social life within the colleges, providing a counterbalance to options elsewhere. As the institution looks to grow its student body, the new residential colleges are designed to be approachable and inclusive: easy to navigate, easy to find your place, easy to make your own. Altogether, the new colleges enrich the daily lives of undergraduates across all four years of college with spaces for socializing, dining, making, living, and learning.
