The Break Residence / MU Architecture

February 8, 2023 Paula Pintos 0

Built on the shore of Lake Revdor in the Laurentians, the Break Residence reveals its different faces depending on whether it is discovered from the water or the ground. Encapsulating the idea of “home,” this luxurious residence aids in fulfilling a man’s wish to build his final home on the land of his ancestors. Opening itself up over three levels, this spacious home serves as a place of welcoming and gathering for the small community formed by the few neighboring houses.

The reconstruction was based on the concept of a nursery on the earth that nurtures children’s bodies and minds, with a varied playground that makes use of the difference in elevation of the surrounding terrain, and a building that is connected to the playground to encourage three-dimension play.

Architecture, as a carrier of this conception, is not a “home building” in the first place, for it holds little real life and memory of the owner, instead it resembles a “theme park” with the characteristics above, a reciprocating game between reality and fantasy. Since it is a game, there must be rules. The owner’s requirements are simple: to keep the characters of the three existing houses. And we will make up the rules.
