Urban location. This articulation territory stages the new district in a particular morphology defined by the urban plan of Atelier Lion, of Macro-lots crossed by passages, “park-pocket” and landscape-gardens and which are anchored on a real “geography” of unevenness. Between the Seine, the Boulevard du General Jean Simon, and the Périphérique (ring road), B1A4 is a place where new urban intensities intersect, in the turbulence of the Grand Paysage of flowing territories.

Courtyard House with Seven Rooms / Takayuki Kuzushima and Associates

Build room in town, open room to room – A house built in the suburbs of Aichi Prefecture. The owner had a large number of images of the house, including furniture, lighting, various finishes, equipment, storage ideas, and use of the window area, which he had collected from SNS and magazines. The images were not always consistent; some were of bare concrete exteriors, some were of wood-paneled exteriors, some were of cool minimalist interiors, and some were of chaotic interiors. Convenient and rational storage ideas and tasteful antique furniture were equally aligned. These were fragments of requests for an ideal life, and I knew that they would continue to change day by day after the completion of the construction. Therefore, rather than trying to compose a space by selecting and choosing from a large number of images, we began the design process by considering the framework in which the various elements would overflow and resonate with each other.

The Site. The avenue of Jiaozi, is a grand boulevard in Chengdu that stretches two kilometers from east to west, with a 50-meter wide of landscape space on both sides. The restaurant is one of the twenty service stations that dot the boulevard. The site is located at the heart of the city, facing the busy street on the south and the soaring high rises on the north, and looking afar the twin towers at the end of the avenue. The sense of place is busy and intense, on the first visit we immediately envisioned a proposal that would bring a breath of nature. Working with materials and tectonics that evoke a sense of nature, we try to create a relaxing and approachable setting for people to sit down and enjoy the food.

St. Mary’s School is one of the important educational institutions of Rajkot with a rich history spanning 60+ years. The school enjoys the luxury of an open ground of 19000 SQM dedicated purely to the students’ recreational activities. The location for their new basketball court was selected close to the already existing one so that simultaneous training sessions can be carried out. This location is at the southeast corner of the School’s open ground, with a line of lush trees dotting the eastern edge. The site opens to the vast ground on the western edge while the existing basketball court is on the northern edge.
