Nymburk Pedestrian Bridge / Strasky, Husty a partneri (SHP)

August 3, 2022 Luciana Pejić 0

The pedestrian and cyclist bridge, which is situated between the city’s historic center and town suburb ‘Zálabí’, connects cycling and pedestrian trails running along both banks of the river. Since it is located near a historic arch bridge, it is also formed by an arch structure, but it has a longer span and it has no supports in the river. The bridge structure consists of two outwardly inclined steel arches, on which a bridge deck from prestressed concrete is suspended. The rise of the arches was chosen so that in the predominant part the arches are situated above the heads of pedestrians, and thus do not obstruct their clear view of the historic city and, at the same time, it does not obscure the view of the historic bridge to people walking along the river.

Tables, design chairs and stone floors at Designmuseum cafe

Copenhagen-based OEO Studio has created a cafe and shop interior for Denmark’s Designmuseum using stone, steel and wood to honour architect Kaare Klint’s original design. OEO Studio worked with materials and colours that reference Klint’s design from the 1920s and added details such as custom-built cabinets to the shop and a “monolithic” steel serving counter

Strategic Green Spaces: How to Make the Most of their Cooling Effects

August 3, 2022 Maria-Cristina Florian 0

Urban green spaces are considered one of the most appropriate and accessible ways to mitigate the effects of rising temperatures in urban environments. As the global climate warms, cities worldwide face more frequent and extreme heat waves, putting their citizens at risk. Many cities are employing strategies for reducing the impact of urban heat islands, which are generated when natural land cover is replaced with surfaces that absorb and retain heat, such as pavements and buildings. This raises the temperature by several degrees compared to the surroundings. Cities have their micro-climate, influenced by this phenomenon combined with a series of often overlooked factors. For a climate strategy to be efficient, all factors need to be taken into consideration.

Monologue Art Museum / Wutopia Lab

August 3, 2022 Collin Chen 0

Wutopia Lab has been commissioned by Sino-Ocean Group to create a monologue art museum on the park green of SEATOPIA in Beidaihe, Qinhuangdao, dedicated to an infinite minority of people who want to be free from worldly distractions. It was completed and opened to the public in July 2022. Queen Dido created the great Carthage by cutting cow skin into thin strips and circling a piece of land. In an open green space at the intersection of three residential clusters in the Weilan Coast campus, I broke up the 1,300 square meter building into different monoliths combined with walls, corridors, and ambiguous spaces into a triangular-shaped 3,600 square meter place, the Monologue Art Museum.
