White bathroom interior

Our latest lookbook explores contemporary takes on traditional white bathrooms, proving that monochrome doesn’t have to be monotonous. White bathroom interiors are an enduring household trend, typically chosen for being practical but also for their connotations of cleanliness. Yet, their simplicity is often seen as being sterile, traditional or devoid of design. The ten examples

Regional Music and Dance School of Saint Paul / Périphériques Marin+Trottin Architectes

The Cimendef building, designed by Périphériques architects in 2015, was supposed to be a media library. The opening of the library didn’t happen but the building itself was bought by the Region Reunion Office. The new owner decided to put different cultural facilities in it by mixing together the Regional Music School (CRR), the headquarter of an association promoting local music (PRMA), and a part of the Literature Regional Center (CLR). The building is brand new but it needs to be changed to welcome those new uses.

Circle of Forest and People Public Restroom / Yamashita Sekkei

Connecting people and nature through log architecture. In planning a public toilet to be built in a park called ‘Tatsudayama Rest Forest’, which has been loved by many people as a ‘forest in the city’, we wished to create architecture in harmony with the rich nature and to contribute to Kumamoto Prefecture, where the forestry industry is very active. While great expectations are focused on timber for the decarbonized society, the price of domestic timber continues to stagnate and the forestry industry is exhausted. By using logs as building materials, we tried to re-evaluate the value of wood, as almost 100% of the natural trees can be utilized.

Wildgrass House in the Nilgiris / Mathew and Ghosh Architects

The land set near the forest, at the foothill of an adjoining local old family-owned tea estate has become the weekend home for a couple from Bangalore. Other than capturing the mountain and valley views, creating a vantage viewpoint, making different blocks for living and for retiring at night, and having common spaces for daily living with sunlight; within it, there are much deeper questions and things that inform this design.

British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) is Bangladesh’s largest international corporation, with headquarters and factories located around the country. The client desired a contemporary design with hotel-like amenities which will represent their vast industrial development in the fringe of the Kushtia, district. The project is a rest house (temporary accommodation) for Company’s high officials and guests. Instead of simply offering temporary accommodation, the design attempted to provide guests with an exploratory experience of the privileged landscape.
