Google has just announced that the company plans to occupy the famous postmodernist icon, the Thompson Center, by 2026 after major renovations works. The building that was under threat of demolition for a while will be renovated by JRTC Holdings LLC to meet Google’s needs for its flexible hybrid workforce and to accommodate the tech giant’s 1,800 employees in Chicago.

Hangar architecture is a relatively new building type. Ever since the Wright brothers stored and repaired their aircraft in a wooden hangar constructed in 1902, designers and builders have continued to rethink what these structures can be. Beyond actual airports and terminals, hangars are unique in that they’re purpose-built to hold an aircraft or spacecraft. Today, how can this building type be challenged and reimagined?

Being respectful to each other is, presently, the major issue of being a human, and so be the architecture. This house is built for a man who desperately loves dogs. In the beginning, he desired to build a place, not only for him to live, but it must be a place for his dogs to enjoy as much as they want. He also desires to share his happiness and his beloved dogs’ happiness with other dog lovers by accommodating a part of his dog’s house as a hotel where other dogs can share facilities and meet each other in the place, including dog care and salon corner to the back house, and also the waiting area in front of the project for the human who wants to see their beloved dog’s activities during the dog’s treatment program.

The IV edition of the biennial Living Places – Simon Architecture Prize for architecture nominations and registrations can now be made until the 15th of September via www.simonprize.org. Inscription and participation are entirely free of charge and the winning teams receive a cash prize of 10.000 €. The vocation of this recognition is to distinguish those architectural projects (including interiors, public spaces and landscaping) whose excellence enhances the capacity of the spaces to ensure the comfort of its inhabitants. Architectures that turn into higher quality spaces for people in their day-to-day lives: to work, to learn, to wait, to play… Architectures to live in.

Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo has unveiled the design of what will soon become the tallest high-rise ensemble in the city of The Hague, in the Netherlands. Dubbed “The Grace”, the project consists of two towers, one at 150 meters high and the other at 180 meters, becoming the tallest high-rise ensemble in the city. The residential project comes as a response to the growing demand for affordable housing, as well as fostering an enhanced sense of community.

Casa das Minas is a residential house located in the district of Caieras, near Ouro Preto, a historical city of the 18th century, listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO. Immersed in a densely wooded region, the house resembles a refuge in the forest, although it was built as a permanent residence.
