Decantei Tavern / Pedevilla Architects

April 9, 2022 Andreas Luco 0

The new tavern is located in the old town of Brixen near the main cathedral. The building dates back to the 13th century. Among other uses over the centuries, it has been the official residence of the cathedral’s dean. Several historical rooms now offer contiguous spaces for up to a hundred guests. An inner courtyard and a sunny garden complete the restaurant. The aim of the project was to restore the building’s original character. Rooms and surfaces that had been built in the meantime were removed, so as to preserve or refurbish historically valuable elements. Already existing but blocked openings were also uncovered in order to protect the historical monument.

House MV / Wim Heylen Architect

The project concerns a bungalow from the 1950s located on a spacious plot with a green character. In the 00s, the house was extended at the rear facade with a ground floor volume in dark gray brick. The main volume also received a new cladding in white plaster with gray aluminum window frames. The characteristic canopy around the gently sloping roof was retained as a visible reminder of the original post-war villa that was concealed in the stucco. A house with two faces was formed: a white abstraction of the past on the front facade stands in stark contrast with the dark stone no-nonsense architecture on the rear facade.

Art Deco: How Discovery, Invention and Fashion Created a Movement

April 9, 2022 Rebecca Ildikó Leete 0

Art Deco or Arts Décoratifs originated in the 1920’s, following the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes held in Paris (1925). However, it wasn’t until the 1930’s that the movement gained momentum across both Europe and the US, broadening Art Deco to cover all elements of decorative art including furniture, interior design, jewelry and architecture. Its popularity stems from its unique origins. Rather than a design movement driven by political or philosophical forces, it was created for the desire of glamorous and alluring change, a reflection of the golden age in Hollywood and a widespread economic boom.
