Imatra Electricity Substation / Virkkunen & Co Architects

The project is composed of an electricity substation building and five transmission towers and terminals in Imatra in Eastern Finland. The project extends over two tributaries of the river Vuoksi and the culturally significant landscape of Imatrankoski rapids. The rapids were harnessed for power generation in the 1920s when the Imatra hydropower plant was constructed. This landmark industrial site was also the starting point of the first part of the Finnish main power grid. The historical significance of the area was why our client, the main grid operator Fingrid Oyj, pursued an exceptional substation facility.

House Ochenta y seis centímetros / Pachon-Paredes

Time. HOUSE No.1 is the transformation, refurbishment, and adaptation of the interior, exterior, and in-between spaces of a dark and compartmentalized 1978 house. The new configuration responds to the needs of its users, who were looking for a space to live, work, play sports, and enjoy both as a family and individually. In the proposal, neutral spaces are used to adapt to genealogical changes and their spatial consequences. The house fits a rectangle of 16m x 9m, which is distorted by patios, terraces, and balconies. Each level is divided longitudinally into two bays of 3.5m and 5.5m, with a difference in height of 86cm. The goal is to transform a highly compartmentalized and dark space into an open and light-filled space, where the staircase, which was a spatial and lighting obstacle, becomes an essential heterogeneous space.

YUANGU Restaurant / YUANGU Corporation WUZHI Design

YuanGu Yanjing is located on the second and the third floor of Chengdu Yuanyang Taikooli. However, we had a quite special structure of this restaurant. The store entrance is on the second floor, while the main commercial area is on the third floor. The two sections are connected by a long stair, which brings us many troubles to the operation team. As a result, the design of the entrance is particularly important. In order to highlight the characteristics of Yuangu, we choose the old stone and old wood to improve the quality of the façade. The stair is mysterious, long, and narrow.

Glass and steel form rooftop Cascada House apartment in Mexico City

Architects Ana Nuño de Buen and Luis Young have used a green metallic frame to form the structure of an airy apartment built atop an existing building in Mexico City. The Cascada House was designed by Mexican architects Nuño de Buen and Young to provide a standalone unit atop a concrete building from the 1950s.

Located in a natural environment, the expansion of the exterior space of this country house emphasizes the existing landscape values and brings the inhabitant closer to nature. The exterior space of the existing house is modified because the inhabitants considered it scarce for use on weekends when reunions with relatives are common.
