In an early seventies building, we found an uncharacterized apartment, too compartmentalized and with little natural light. The challenge was to bring a contemporary language ensuring the comfort of modern living under controlled costs.

What Makes a Home and How Do We Plan for its Future?

January 3, 2021 Kaley Overstreet 0

A home is one of the most significant architectural typologies that we experience throughout our lives. Largely serving as a significant private space, a home represents safety, ownership, and a sense of respite away from the rest of the world. It’s also historically been a place of routine, where we both begin and end our day, following the same patterns through different rooms of a home that we utilize. We can expect to sleep in our bedrooms, relax in a living room, cook in a kitchen, and eat in a dining room.

ChatPay Office / Play Arquitetura

January 3, 2021 Andreas Luco 0

Created to host a technology and social media startup called ChatPay, the project preserved and highlighted the two main original features of the space: its concrete structure with ribbed slab and the beautiful view to which the three large windows open. For this, the closed spaces that the program demanded – three meeting rooms, a telephone booth and bathrooms, were located opposite to the large windows. The main meeting room (A) approaches the view and enjoys it, without, however, segmenting or dividing the existing window. The air conditioning, lighting and fire facilities were organized and distributed to be apparent in the open areas.

Five Houses / Nommo Arquitetos

January 2, 2021 Pilar Caballero 0

Five houses occupy a corner lot in a residential neighborhood in Curitiba. Outside, the feeling is one of unity, since geometrically there are no divisions between the houses, and in terms of materiality the whole building was treated in the same way: white at the top and stone at the bottom. Only the gates mark the entrances.

Park and Shore Apartments / Woods Bagot

January 2, 2021 Andreas Luco 0

Located along the Hudson River waterfront, Park + Shore is a reimagined iteration of the brick-clad rental apartment buildings that were characteristic of the original Newport Development’s Master Plan. The site is comprised of two distinct buildings—75 Park Lane and Shore House—which stand at 38 and six stories, respectively. The taller of the two, containing 358 residences, is articulated into three distinct stacked, horizontal zones with a podium that maintains the narrow pedestrian street frontages with a low- rise base that extends to the street.
