Pinghe Bibliotheater at the Shanghai Qingpu Pinghe International School China

Chinese studio Open Architecture has designed a theatre and library at the Shanghai Qingpu Pinghe International School China within a blue-coloured building that resembles a whale. Named the Pinghe Bibliotheater, the building was designed by Open Architecture to combine two theatres with a library in one structure that would be a visual marker for the international school

Piercy&Company has completed the refurbishment and extension of Harella House, a 1930’s warehouse and former clothing factory in London’s Clerkenwell on behalf of Chait Investment Ltd. The building now provides 3,107 m2 of light filled, flexible office space over six floors, is rated BREEAM Excellent and achieves a 47% reduction in carbon emissions compared to the existing building.

Located in Xiaoshan Xianghu Resort, the ‘Tree House’ belongs to the hotel district of Senbo Resort Hangzhou. The tree house may originate from the desire to return to the ‘nest residence’. After getting the proposition of ‘tree house’ and taking careful consideration, we gradually clarified the concept: it is not the solitary living but the state of gregariousness on the tree that can strengthen the characteristics of nesting the most, -‘A group of cabins landing on the branches’ emerged as the initial image.

The project started with the challenge to transform an underground garage in Porto downtown into an office space for several companies. At a first glance, the space did not seem to be the most obvious choice for architectonical adaptations. However, by taking advantage of the building’s spatial and formal characteristics, the design manages to embody the roughness of the garage space working with it as an outer shell and creating a new interior living area.

The Burke Museum is the oldest public museum in Washington State with a collection of over 16 million artifacts and specimens, ranging from totem poles and gemstones to dinosaur fossils. Because the Burke’s collection is so wide-ranging and continues to grow – it is a collecting museum – the new building needed to serve as a coherent, effective container that would allow for flexibility over time. The building’s rational scheme holds the complexity of the Burke’s activities and collections, both now and into the future.
