Ditton Hill House by Surman Weston in Surbiton

Surman Weston has built a house in Surbiton, south-west London, with a facade that riffs of the mock-Tudor facades of the surrounding suburban homes. Named Ditton Hill House, the home was designed to combine the client’s desire for a contemporary house that had an industrial aesthetic with an acknowledgement of its location in a London suburb.

The work of Fernando Prats sustains itself in the landscape of Chile, both geographical and human, and the immersive energy of its extreme nature. The piece entitled “Her Vertical Retains Us” (Su Vertical nos Retiene) arises out of continuous observation of the Andes, the “Poem of Chile” (Poema de Chile) by Gabriel Mistral, and drawings from the 1875 Atlas of Physical Geography of the Republic of Chile, done by geologist Pedro José Amado Pissis.

Phoenix Central Park Gallery / John Wardle Architects + Durbach Block Jaggers

The vision of remarkable arts philanthropist Judith Neilson, the building is a partnership of architecture and artistic fields. The intention is to have the spaces working together, to have visual arts interwoven with the performing arts. Two architects bring the design together: John Wardle Architects designed the gallery in the east wing and Durbach Block Jaggers designed the performance space. The components are linked centrally by a courtyard and garden.

“Thom Mayne: Sculptural Drawings” Opens at the Museum for Architectural Drawing in Berlin

Running from 11 September till 15 November 2020, “Thom Mayne: Sculptural Drawings” is the latest architectural exhibition at Tchoban Foundation Museum for Architectural Drawing in Berlin. Curated by Kristin Feireiss, together with Esenija Bannan, the project questions the nature of architectural drawing and how it influenced the work of Thom Mayne, founder of Morphosis. The exhibition features Mayne’s works dating from 1979 through 2020 and leads visitors from “traditional” drawings and new experimentations with techniques, through to 3D paintings.
