Extension Headquarter EMAG / Neugebauer + Roesch Architekten

February 5, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

After a construction period of only 12 months, the machine building company celebrated the completion of a three-aisled production hall and an adjoining three-storey office wing with training facilities as well as a representative visitor car park in the summer of 2019. Consistent continuation of the architectural concept. With over 3000 employees worldwide, EMAG produces manufacturing systems for precision metal components. The Stuttgart-based architects had already completed a joint production hall and office building on the company grounds in Salach close to Göppingen at the beginning of 2003. The shop floor and offices are immediately connected. This concept of a direct link between administration, production and logistics has been reapplied in the south extension of the EMAG headquarters. The exterior finish also reflects the continuation of the architectural concept: the new production hall has been clad with the same horizontally fixed trapezoidal sheet as the existing halls; the aluminium and glass curtain wall of the office wing continues the facade design of the existing building immediately next door.

“We Try to Slow Things Down”: In Conversation with Carme Pigem of RCR Arquitectes

February 5, 2020 Vladimir Belogolovsky 0

I am fortunate to have seen numerous beautiful buildings and spaces, so when I recently went to Olot near Girona, Spain, to explore the works of 2017 Pritzker Prize Laureates, RCR Arquitectes, I thought I was all prepared. But even though I was familiar with their works through publications, what I encountered firsthand, moved me in the most surprising and delightful ways. The sheer ingenuity and brilliance of these structures, so integral to their places and consequential of their given programs, empower architecture and yield sensations that are truly special and unforgettable.

Hanzas Perons Cultural Center / Sudraba Arhitektūra

Text by Artis Zvirgzdins. Riga — the capital city of Latvia was one of the biggest and advanced industrial and port cities of Russian Empire in the period before the World War I. This 19th-century capitalist city — not only brick buildings of numerous factories and workers’ wooden tenement houses but in fact, whole core of the contemporary city with its public buildings and multi-storey apartment houses — could be considered as the most significant part of Riga’s identity. The extensive heritage of the industrial age has played significant role in the fact that the architects of Riga are involved so much in those fields of architecture which are related to the architectural heritage — different restoration, renovation, refurbishment, and adaptive reuse projects and have been able to gain experience, skills, and mastery during the last couples of decades.
