After successfully serving upper level and graduate courses for 45 years, the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) is amidst a dramatic transformation. In 2014, UCHL became a full four-year institution, admitting its first freshman class and spurring rapid enrollment growth. The Recreation & Wellness Center was envisioned as a key part of this transition to a four-year institution and became a recruitment tool—providing not only an essential student life amenity, but also acting as a point-of-pride campus landmark boosting the University’s brand.

Clean, modern and bossa-filled architects were influenced by the rudimentary and fascinating poetry that traces the beginning of human history, thus emphasizing the symbolic essence of the caves as the firstborn dwelling and rescuing the origin of man as being that it appropriates something and, in a simple way, makes it cozy and safe.

The Tibidabo Welcome Square is the introduction to the core elements and philosophy of the attraction park Tibidabo. Solidarity, sustainability and education at its core, the new square opens up towards a beautiful view over the city, inviting visitors of all generations to contemplate over the panoramic view of Barcelona. This new modern, yet playful welcome square has been branded by the vertical garden covering the welcome building itself. The welcome building now becomes one of Barcelona’s biggest insect Hotels turning the amusement park into an inter-species attraction. The facade limits visual pollution by blending in with the natural surroundings.

Icoma Headquarters / Estudio.Entresitio

ICOMA is the acronim for Ilustre Colegio de Medicos de Alava, the medical professional association in the region of Alava in Spain, and this projects presents their new headquartes. The new offices for ICOMA are implemented on an existing space in a residential building, connecting the street level space with the one on the second floor. The adaptive reuse of the existing space involved the aperture and definition of two small glass courtyards, new light sources for the ground level, that allowed for an open plan in visual continuity while helping to clarify transits and the definition of static versus dynamic areas.
