Cities are considered to be one of the major reasons for the many environmental issues we have today. Studies show that cities emit 60% more carbon that thought, in fact they account for more than 70% of the global CO2 emissions. With our garden house project we would like to emphasize how much potential there is for urban gardens and for the creation of microclimates which could improve the living conditions within cities and slow global warming.
The public space is under pressure: commercialized for economic interests, abused as a playground of event culture, maneuvered into insignificance by private self-staging. Is its original function as a forum of public life before the end? At the same time, the number of standards, regulations, and requirements that should guarantee safety and functionality is increasing. Are not the creative possibilities by which new architecture can react to the specificity of the location less and less? And if so, how are the buildings affected by these processes?
It is a house for a couple who took over a large site. The main building where the elderly mother lived was damaged and demolished by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. The site was surrounded by tall block fences with a barn and garden trees left behind. The owner requested a space full of privacy and light.
This plot is located in a village of Mount Mogan in Deqing. The front building is a old house over a century which is the only one left in the oldgroup of buildings.It used to be the former lobby , and is in Huizhou residential style. The building behind is a two-tier old house built in 1985. The two houses are nearly 18 degrees dislocation. The west side is only 1meter away from the nearest place. The whole plot is in a valley surrounded by bamboo forests on three sides of the building. The outdoor scattered randomly. It is divided into several platforms by the public stone step road that the elevation difference is obvious and next to the stone step is a stream.

The Long House is a two-storey, new-build dwelling in Somerton, Somerset, designed by Neil Choudhury Architects. The 350 square-metre project is built into a steeply sloping site and overlooks a pond, mill stream and garden designed by James Alexander Sinclair. Conceived as a liberal reinterpretation of local long houses, the plan measures six-metres wide by 40-metres long with a traditional flat gable end. A contemporary tweak is that the plan is cranked around the central entrance hall and stairwell. All habitable rooms face the garden to the south.
