The plot, located in the Narvarte neighborhood posed various challenges, such as its L-shaped layout and the reduced front, which demanded more “interior-facing” apartments that would be appealing for the clients. As resources we implemented the use of vegetation and latticework to generate a play of light and shadow that improves the spaces. This project was designed in accordance with the land use, which allowed 4 residential floors with 11 apartments and a semi-underground parking garage.

SERA expands Portland Playhouse with building wrapped in glass and charred wood

Portland Playhouse by SERA

American studio SERA Architects has overhauled a 115-year-old church building and created a contemporary addition to house a nonprofit theatre company in Oregon. Since 2008, the Portland Playhouse has operated out of a once-vacant church in the city’s King neighbourhood. In the early days, the group got by with sofa seating and other make-shift solutions.

Multicolor Pavilion, is a play pavilion designed for Fundaland, the inclusive and supportive park of Fundación A LA PAR. The Foundation works towards the rights and participation of people with intellectual disabilities in society. It has the archetypical shape of a house to show that it is an inclusive space, a home for all. It celebrates diversity through color, and the alliance between people by the intersections of the color lines. It is translucent to unveil to the outside that inclusion through playing is also possible.

Gensler Unveils Temporary Worship Pavilion for Notre Dame

Architecture firm Gensler has unveiled a design for a temporary worship pavilion at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Set to be located in Parvis Square, the temporary structure would be constructed primarily out of charred timber for added strength and durability. The proposal comes after the Notre Dame fire in April this year. The Pavillon Notre-Dame was designed to offer hope to Parisians and international visitors while the 850-year-old cathedral is being restored.
