The Lantern House extension is a project to re-energise the rear of a double storey Victorian house located in Melbourne’s quiet inner city suburbia. The extension replaced the original oversized alfresco with a traditional roofline design with an inviting and high functioning indoor and outdoor space that blends seamlessly into the main house and garden. The kitchen area was extended to create a new indoor dining space complete with a gas fireplace, which in turn flows into a reimagined outdoor lounge and kitchen area with a built-in BBQ, perfect for entertaining.

Casa MV is located west of the city of Chihuahua, in a subdivision with privileged views of the city, on an east-facing plot. The clients wanted views of the city as well as a large garden that could be watched from anywhere in the house. The scheme arises from the geometry of the terrain, where the west orientation adjoins a rainwater runoff, which allowed us to move away more from the adjoining wall and take advantage of the views.

The project initially intended to be a small country house with a bedroom and a limited social area that would be used for weekends. The land where the house is implanted is very privileged, since it faces its visuals towards the valley of Tumbaco, therefore, the first condition of the project was to align all the spaces of the house to the east orientation, taking advantage of the visuals to the landscape of the Valley.
