Funded by Norman Foster in 1967, Foster+Partners studio develops projects that integrate architecture and engineering with interior and object design. In a special collaboration with Porcelanosa – experts in the fabrication of furniture and accessories made out of stone, ceramic, brass, wood and KRION®–, they have designed a collection of bathrooms in simple and minimalistic ways, highlighting the essence of the materials and the trade of their fabrication.

Hanging Gardens Office Building / Carr Cotter & Naessens + Denis Byrne Architects

Two of the vaults now lining Henry street are the remains of an expansive terraced garden built in the 19th century that occupied the site. Replaced early in the 20th century by a courtyard complex of red brick buildings accommodating the General Post Office. This too was partially replaced in 2007, and the courtyard space replaced by a 5 storey concrete frame to be developed as a commercial office development. With the recession came stagnation, as the concrete frame and historic fragments were abandoned and turned to ruins.

This is a house built for an elderly married couple in the outskirts of the city. Besides providing living functions to the couple, the house also has an atelier space for their son who lives in the same city. In recent years, Japan is experiencing an aging society, where most of the elderly citizens are still active as an “Active senior” . It is essential for us to consider and explore a new possible way to help them enjoy their second life after retiring.
