Architecture lost itself in an identity crisis not long ago. The discipline wandered in self-reflection, reexamining how practitioners go about their work, how the built environment should appear, and why. Movements came and went. Promising paths dead-ended. Eventually, the profession gave up looking for ways out of its uncertainty, leaving us where we are today.
Sam Sam’s interior explores a sense of elegance and modesty with its clean, perpendicular and tiled design that flows continuously around the walls, floors and furniture, forming soft curved surfaces along the corners of the space. Similar to Sam Sam’s menu, its overall scheme, lighting features, and seating layout also gives a contemporary approach to the retro style of the 60s and the architecture of traditional Korean public baths.
One hall interpreting two themes
This very project found its place among the crowded dormitory buildings of Nanjing University of the Arts. What used to be the public rooms on the ground floor of the original No.46 dormitory is ready to be renovated and expanded into a two-story art exhibition hall. The lower floor is assigned to ” the Exhibition Hall of Ancient Ceramics Researches”, and the upper floor ” the Exhibition Hall of Ancient Oil Painting Restoration “. The two halls representing for two themes, Chinese culture and western culture, are designed to be separated and to be managed independently.
Clean Lines and Round Corners. The state-of-the-art office building is located on the Taurusavenue, near the historical monument of the Amsterdam Defense Line, listed as Unesco World Heritage since 1996. The exterior aspect of the building, with its clean lines and transparent character, was designed to match this special context. A grid of light-colored Terrazzo cladding frames the large openings. The transition from the building to the natural surrounding is mediated by the rounded corners of the building volume, that soften the geometric grid of the facade. To realize these perfectly rounded corners in the building, Powerhouse Company collaborated with Saint Gobain to develop the spectacular-size round glass that contributes to the unique character of the project.
This ultra-compact puncture centre has the simplest square plan. It contains four doctor’s cabinets, a waiting room, sanitary cells and a multipurpose meeting room. The aim was to achieve as much compactness as possible. This compact form, extensively insulated, provides a more than contemporary energy balance.

After the “Seashore Library” and “Seashore Chapel”, “Restaurant y Sea” completes the trilogy of Vector Architects’ seashore series at Aranya Community in Beidaihe New District.
