ANNSO HILL, located in Heshun Ancient Town of Yunnan, is situated in a narrow alleyway lined with B&Bs and storefronts. The site is composed with two characteristically different lot spaces forming an inverted“L”shape, which begins with a compressed street front zone on a steep slope, and ends on a long serene hillside aligned with beautiful tall trees.

Dongshan Public Toilet, located in a village in Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, is a pilot demonstration for public toilets amid rural revitalization. The local villages, epitomizing the typical rural landscape in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, bears both mixed style and charactersitics of different regions. The aesthetics have changed as traditional buildings in the village disappears and resident population seek jobs in the cities. In this context, we tried to fit in the villages of Xiaoshan.

‘HHH’ house was inspired by our childhood memories and perception of a house to begin with. As a kid, we often picture a house with a single triangular roof (pitch roof) on top of a square wall with a door and a window, and we were inspired by these basic shapes and unpretentious materials used on the houses we have seen when we were young. A vision of a simple home with cozy ambiance is the space quality that we would like to offer.

In Ming Dynasty in Hangzhou, China, a new way of teaching was invented to make education more free, open and closer to the nature, where teachers giving classes to students in a boat floating through the lotus and trees in the water. Today, Hangzhou Chovan Experimental School, inherited this local tradition from hundreds of years ago, aspired to create a new space to carry forward this spirit of education.

Botanic Museum has a free space which will be created by users themselves. A cafeteria is designed as one of facilities which had to be involved legally in an arboretum at the end of the mountain Bongdongsan in Jinhae, South Korea. As time goes by, stories filling up the space are ever-changing. Spaces are born, grow and disappear when they become too old to fulfill their functions. We thought the existed compost shed has a great meaning, if it doesn’t disappear but lengthens its life with new function, even though its surround site becomes to have different use.

MÉCA Cultural Center / BIG

The new 18,000 m2 Maison de l’Économie Créative et de la Culture en Aquitaine, MÉCA, creates a frame for the celebration of contemporary art, film, and performances, giving Bordeaux the gift of art-filled public space from the waterfront to the city’s new urban room. Centrally located between the River Garonne and Saint-Jean train station, MÉCA, brings together three regional arts agencies – FRAC for contemporary art, ALCA for cinema, literature, and audiovisuals, and OARA for performing arts – into a loop, cementing the UNESCO-listed city as the epicenter for culture.

Since 2007 the Portuguese government has financed a programme to modernize state secondary schools by building new functional spaces and infrastructures that will improve the educational environment and raise the quality of teaching. The intervention at this school was a pilot project to test models that could be used in the future.
