Student Club of Heyuan Senior High School / YUANISM ARCHITECTS

July 29, 2019 Collin Chen 0

When people in towns yearn for livings in big cities like a flying kite, the “self” is the string of the kite connected to the ground. It refers to the long long years of school, of which shapes you no matter where you are. In a fast-paced society, under the doing of prototype trimming and modelarization in architecture, schools are similar to each other. Four people in a dormitory and forty-five people in a classroom, school life remains unchanged like these rules of standard. As we walk into a Starbucks in a completely unfamiliar city, we blurt out a cup of mocha frappuccino without checking the menu. Similarly, wenever have too many memories more than the neat white teaching buildings, the barren football field, for the second “home” before adult. The school lost its locality as a field.

Boundary House / IN. Architects

July 29, 2019 Collin Chen 0

Going back to three years ago, the day when I thought of “Boundary House”. I met Sun Zhaoyang in the winter evening of 2016. During the chat, I learned that he wanted to build a house for his parents in his hometown. His hometown is located in the village on the outskirts of Luohe City, Henan Province, China. The site is at the end of the village, facing the fields. What is in the distance? Hills, desulphurization towers and rock birds that don’t want to go back to the nest.

200 Pittwater House / CHROFI

July 29, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

CHROFI has converted a nondescript 1980’s commercial building into a thriving mixed-use development comprised of five, three-bedroom, loft apartments sitting above ground floor commercial premises. The existing building presented an overly wide street address that was incongruent with the scale of the rest of the street. The setback of the existing building from the road also created a poorly defined and out of scale pedestrian experience, preventing the building from meaningfully contributing to the life of the street and the nearby ‘five ways’ intersection.

Nautilus House / Martín Gómez Arquitectos

July 29, 2019 Clara Ott 0

Like a trident deployed from the sea, Nautilus is located in one of Manantiales closest blocks to the beach. A ramp facing the street leads to the entrance of rectangular lines, where the use of wood in exterior cladding, concrete and aluminum stands out. The facade is reminiscent of a ship’s deck, a sensation that increases thanks to the use of portholes throughout the house and the spiral staircase to the solarium.
