House at Joo Hong Road / Lim Chai Boon

July 5, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

The project was fundamentally conceived by a husband and wife team, both architects, who set out to design a 3-generation dwelling for themselves, a modern tropical house which transcends beyond the confines of a tight intermediate terrace plot. One of the main challenges faced by the couple, who were avid swimmers, was how to accommodate a lap pool of decent size within the confines of an intermediate terrace house while not sacrificing the functional needs of the living spaces. The design solution that arises adopts the unconventional approach of lifting the living spaces of the house from the 2nd storey while freeing up the ground floor for a 21m lap pool and spa facilities.

Interface Headquarters / Perkins+Will

July 5, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

Interface, Inc., world-leading modular flooring company for commercial applications and leader in sustainability, chose to repurpose a 1950s-era office building in Midtown Atlanta as its new global headquarters. Although new buildings can be built extremely “green” and energy-efficient, it can still take anywhere from 10 to 80 years to make up the negative impacts of a new construction project due to the role of embodied carbon within building materials. True to the Interface ethos, it was important that these new headquarters reflect who the company is, what they do best and the core values they live every day.

When the needs of new occupants inevitably change they often times modify the apartment layout with the initial effort to create a bespoke apartment significantly wasted. Our renovation removes parts of the apartment to fit the owner’s daily life while concentrating on strengthening the bones of the space – the core elements that will be there for a while even as the needs of its occupants change over time.
