Guryongpo is a place, which has the legend of falling a dragon out of ten dragons arise from the sea to sky. Since it has rich fishery resources such as whales, crabs, and squids, it became a harbor to plunder under the Japanese colonial era. Japanese House street, where it was made at that time, still exists. One side of Guryongpo harbor is crowded with many small restaurant and pubs but on the other side, relax space such as Ara square is mixed.

House in Shinkawa / Yoshichika Takagi

This is a house with a space that looks like an interior as well as an exterior. The space has a large air volume, covered with a roof and translucent surface which keep off the rain and wind. However, it doesn’t have heat insulation performance. It could be positioned on the extension of the Japanese traditional earth floor or the sun room seen in houses of Hokkaido. Here we call it a “terrace” because it is a half-exterior space that is bright and open. From spring to autumn, it works as a part of the living space. And in winter it works like a glasshouse, which keeps off the severe cold.

Montbau Library Rehabilitation / OliverasBoix Arquitectes

The Albert Pérez Baró Library is located in the Montbau housing estate. It was founded in the 1980s by the neighbours themselves as a popular library. Initially it occupied two of three former school buildings which had been constructed in the 1950s during the first phase of the estate. The passage of time and successive modernisation and extension programmes, which had often been barely integrated into the whole, had left the building in a state of considerable deterioration.
