The owners of Core Kensington– a Mexican-Norwegian couple – appointed us to design the new premises for their reformer Pilates studio in London. We set out to achieve a high quality, inspiring calm and bright space of highly bespoke nature where sports and architecture would go hand in hand. We wanted a space that would be in line with the expectations of Core Kensington’s unique clientele, who receive highly personalised training sessions of maximum 6 participants.

This house stands in a new residential district in the mountains, which was put up for sale in the 1990s. The region has a slightly cool and wet climate, when looking at the other houses in the vicinity; you can see that many of them feature lean-to-sheds, designed as small sunrooms, made by enclosing a back entrance or veranda with corrugated polycarbonate panels. These so-called ‘terrace enclosures’ are often used as storehouses in winter, or as places for drying laundry – a clever feature, that we realized represents, a certain style shared among the various new mass-produced houses of this residential district.

This is a north facing vaastu compliant home for a single family dwelling, which is designed on a linear plot with neighbours homes on east & west sides and an open plot in the south.

Dexter Studios is a VFX company. The term ‘VFX’ (Visual FX) refers to visual special effects. It creates images that cannot exist and develops techniques used to shoot scenes impossible to shoot or difficult to use actual life-size objects. Since the company exclusively deals with image related projects, people at the company work in a darker environment than regular office environment. This office is always a nighttime even during the daytime outside. It is a space where day & night coexist like Rene Magritte’s The Empire of Light.
