Furioso Vineyards / Waechter Architecture

The Furioso Vineyards project consists of the renovation and expansion of a pre-existing winery and the addition of a new tasting room and additional public amenities. The original Furioso estate, located in the heart of Oregon’s wine country, was made up of a series of disconnected utilitarian structures scattered across its property, including a steel-shed winery, various storage facilities, outdoor crush pad, and an adjacent residence. Built in disparate styles and materials, the estate lacked an overall identity. In addition, although completely surrounded by vineyards, the buildings turned their back on the landscape, instead focusing on internal production.

Peter Hall Performing Arts Centre / Haworth Tompkins

Haworth Tompkins have completed a new Performing Arts Centre for The Perse School in Cambridge. The building, naturally ventilated throughout, includes a 400 seat auditorium, an adaptable foyer space, and full back of house facilities. The Perse School has an extensive programme of music and drama activities which had outgrown its previous facilities. The Performing Arts Centre is named after Peter Hall, who was a pupil at the school from 1941-1949. He went on to be the director of the National Theatre, an institution with which Haworth Tompkins has a long association.

The challenge of designing a residential villa in Jodhpur was trifold: extreme climate, small footprint and a large project brief. The house also needed to be and is Vastu compliant – conforming with the ancient Indian design principles regarding space, sunlight, flow and function.

Key to the clients’ brief was to provide a home that matched their lifestyle through better connections between indoor and outdoor spaces and to enhance the use of natural light, encouraging improved passive heating and cooling.

Brazilian firm Terra e Tuma Arquitetos has designed a U-shaped residence with an outdoor swimming pool in the middle, while also integrating the home into a hillside. Casa João de Barro is situated in the Brazilian town of Itatiba, about an hour-and-a-half drive north of São Paulo, and measures 2,153 square feet (200 square metres)

Chief clubhouse for female executives opens in Manhattan

“Stereotypically male design accents” have been reinterpreted inside this homey, private club for women in senior positions, which has opened in New York City’s TriBeCa neighbourhood. The Lower Manhattan clubhouse provides a hub for Chief – an exclusive organisation launched earlier this year as a community for female executives to connect and learn from one another.
