The building design is inspired by a mineral formation commonly found in the deserts of the Gulf region. The ‘desert rose’ is a rock formed when minerals crystallize in the crumbly soil just below the surface of a shallow salt basin. The system of interlocking disks surrounding the historic palace like necklace looks as if it’s been propagated organically. It incorporates exhibition spaces that fan out in an elliptical circuit around a central court, the Howsh, where outdoor cultural events will be staged. The desert-rose form evokes the culture and climate of Qatar. It emerges from the ground and merges with it. The shadows created by overhanging elements allow visitors to stroll around outside at the same time as protecting the interior from light and heat. The sand-colored concrete cladding is in harmony with the local environment.

JKMM Architects has won the competition to design a new museum in the sea side town of Tammisaari outside Helsinki. Organised by the Albert de la Chapelle Art Foundation, the competition aims to create a museum for the foundation’s art collection with space to exhibit the work. JKMM’s entry was designed to act as a landmark and beacon for the city’s cultural quarter to invite the public from the town’s main square.

Located at the basin of Lake Llanquihue, the project is immersed in an extensive slope of green fields and vestiges of an agricultural past. The warehouses that are still preserved, give a touch of melancholy that maintain the tradition and history of colonization in the area, and that together with the view of the lake and volcanoes, become the main premises of the project.

The idea of the Center “Arts and Sciences” fits with the idea of defending body and material representation to scientific and artistic evolution, discipline in perennial becoming, basing their intentions on research and continuous experimentation.

Jinan is known as the “Spring City” for its many springs since ancient times, with a landscape of lakes and water being a nutrient of life for the city and also a source of cultural enrichment. The copywriting takes springs as a starting point to conceive the spatial pattern and hopes to interpret the fluent posture that the flowing water emerges from the stone crevices, sparkling. Meanwhile, with abundant urban landscape culture as the venation, the design of aqueous phase starts from the concept of museums, with the hope that the space created cannot only display objects but also bring viewers a pure enjoyment of architectural strength and aesthetic feeling. The unusual special scale and viewing method make the intuitive experience mix with the exhibits to be interwoven into a unique cultural memory and offer more in-depth field implications.
