BIG Designs New Gondola for Oakland Athletics Baseball Team

Bjarke Ingels Group has designed an expansive cable-car system to connect to the new Oakland Athletics baseball stadium. The new stadium will replace the Oakland A’s existing 51-year-old Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as a waterfront “jewel box” at Howard Terminal. At the Oakland A’s FanFest, the A’s President Dave Kaval unveiled the new Gondola connecting the Oakland Convention Center to Water Street at Jack London Square. The zero-emission transit line will provide residents and visitors with a way to see the A’s play in their future ballpark.

Collectif Encore’s Hamra studio residence nominated for the Kasper Salin award 2018. The Hamra project by France-based Collectif Encore – architect Anna Chavepayre, is one of four projects selected by the Swedish Architects’ Association for this award considered the most prestigious Swedish architectural distinction and the first time such a modest scale project has been nominated since its creation in 1962.

WIN4 Sports Centre / EM2N

The WIN4 Sports Centre in Winterthur is located beside the existing Deutweg ice arena. Catering for both mass and top-level sport, this new project is intended to have an impact far beyond the city of Winterthur. On this account a kind of architecture was aimed for that translates these national and international ambitions into a memorable architectural language. Three distinctively different building volumes form an ensemble and define a shared outdoor space.

Prajay Chit Funds Office / Design Experiment

Intention and identity were the two challenges presented to design experiment When asked to renovate an old building for a chit funds office.  The intention of the company was clear, to instill confidence in the chit funds offices’ potential customers. The chit funds industry has been fraught with scandals, from owners shutting shop abruptly, to refusing to pay up to its customers, so the architects came up with a novel way to propagate trust amongst its patrons. A simple design intervention in terms of installing a large continuous scrolling LED strip, broadcasting how much the company paid out to its customers that week. The designers felt that, by increasing such evident transparency, it would be possible to earn the trust of its patrons.
