Called Flower Cage House, the project involved extending a typical, 10-year-old detached house, by adding a new room above a carport. In Szentendre, in the 60s and 70s, an industrial zone was built between the town’s main road and the Danube. In this area, the change of regime in the early 90s has left a deep mark. Except for the concrete factory and the paper mill, not any industrial factory could even get through this period. Large industrial areas fell to smaller or larger pieces, some of them were neglected. The aim of the investment in the industrial park owned by ÉMI is to develop infrastructure and service, the initial step of which is to create an attractive environment with a new building that will attract other innovation companies to the area.

In the era where the environmental concern is one of the major issues that dominate the mind of the society, a debate began to rise in a creative industry; whether designers can offer a new outlook to such a significant global issue?
As a landmark for the 2018 Bangkok Design Week, the ‘Waste Side Story’ Pavilion invites the questioning of the conventional design and construction method where materials are consumed and wasted and proposes an alternative approach which involves a consideration of recycled material and an exploration of the material life beyond the building.

PROGRAM
This project involved a remodel and addition to an existing mid-century modern residence built in the 1960’s. The site is a hillside estate property overlooking a broad valley in Orange County, California. While the size and spatial configuration of the existing structure appeared suitable to accommodate the principle needs of the owners for sleeping and living space, they also required additional space to entertain family and friends.
