This Building Saves Energy with a Pioneering Triple-Layer Glass Facade

Italian firm Giovanni Vaccarini Architetti has designed the new Headquarters of the Swiss Société Privée de Gérance (SPG), built on Route de Chêne, at the gates of the historical center of Geneva. The work involved the conversion and extension of the existing building, starting with a glass façade that meets the need for solar shading in the interiors while achieving maximum visual permeability.

The project is the design of a new home for a young family with two working parents and three children. The new house replaces an existing house on a conventional mid-town residential lot in the City of Toronto. Similar in area to the original house, the new design emphasizes fluid relationships between, and within, shared family spaces—both indoor and outdoor. Accommodating a large art collection, as well as the desire to preserve and engage a large tree in the rear yard are two important requirements.

YAC – Young Architects Competitions –launches Observatory Houses, an open architectural competition aiming at the design of a hotel-observatory in the area of the castle of Roccascalegna, in Central Italy. The competition is in cooperation with the Italian State Property Agency – Italian Government, Italian Exhibition Group, the Municipality of Roccascalegna, Casabella, Associazione Italiana Confindustria Alberghi. The internationally-renowned jury gathers, among the others, Enrique Sobejano, Rodrigo Duque Motta, Simon Frommenwiler co-founder of HHS Architects, Nicodemos Tsolakis, Felix Perasso from Snohetta.

Inspired UM” Office / Prusta

In the new office of “Inspired UM” agency works approximately fifty human brains that develop and strategy innovative market communication solutions. The main concept was to create a space in which everything, beginning with the principles of work and ending with the drawings on the walls of respective personalities, inspired to create, surprise, generate ideas, and even relax. The portraits of Jonas Mekas and George Maciunas were also chosen not by chance: they are –  impressive Lithuanian personalities, who  had inspired new artistic movements in the global context years ago, and this is the same purpose of this office team today.

Berman Guedes Stretton upgrades Powell & Moya’s modernist University of Oxford buildings

Berman Guedes Stretton sought to preserve and enhance the modernist designs of buildings at two University of Oxford colleges during renovations to improve their interior layout. The Oxford- and London-based firm was invited to oversee the renovation of a building designed in 1969 by Powell & Moya, a firm best known for its Skylon tensegrity structure at the 1951 Festival of Britain.
