108 Apartment / CoDA arquitetos

December 14, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

Despite the large offer of apartments in Brasilia, few of them offer versatile plans adapted to a contemporary way of living. The couple, Juliana and Alison, sought out CoDA to transform their apartment into a more cozy and functional space. The couple’s demands included a desire to expand their family in the future and to have a more stylish apartment. Among the favorite activities was the taste for cooking and receiving friends. From the beginning, the idea was to divide the space into two clear areas, the social, as integrated as possible, and the intimate, with the couple’s suite, the baby’s room, and an office, occasionally transformed into a guest room.

Housing Block Monzon / Domper Domingo Arquitectos

December 13, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

A multi-family, free-market housing block is developed, organized into four floors above ground and two floors below ground. The block consists of fifteen homes located on the ground floor and on the raised floors, three shops located on the ground floor and semi-basement and the garage and storage area that are located on the semi-basement and the basement levels. The project strategy stems from the three fundamental conditions that the site has; the urban situation of being on the limit of two distinct areas, the unevenness between access levels and the preservation of the historical-patrimonial value of the preexisting building. Faced with these conditions, two project criteria or modes of action are established.

Hotel Can Bordoy / OHLAB

December 12, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

Can Bordoy -Grand House & Garden- is a small 24 room hotel with a magnificent garden, swimming pool, spa and panoramic terrace, located in the historic center of Palma de Mallorca. It is a complete renovation of a 2,500m2 abandoned building that had been heavily intervened throughout it’s more than 500 years of history. One of the most distinctive elements of the property is its garden, not only because of its size but because of the richness and antiquity of the existing vegetation. One of the project’s most important interventions has been opening the doors of the garden, until now unknown by the vast majority, to the city and giving it visibility from the entrance courtyard and from the street.

Shape House / Wolf Architects

The Shape house is a family home for 5. There was an existing single-story 60s home at the rear of the property, which was then renovated in the late 90s. While being a new build the shape house is also an extension of the old 60s/90s structure. The new house then became the primary residence while the old structure was further renovated into the guest’s quarters.

Foodhallen Den Haag Foodcourt / Studio Modijefsky

December 11, 2019 Pilar Caballero 0

Wrapped around an internal courtyard of the Haagsche Bluf, the food court spreads across three adjoining buildings, connecting multiple floor levels and irregular structural grids. The new design simplifies the original chaotic ‘forest’ formed of existing columns, beams and staircases, turning the dark and low interior into an open public space heavily inspired by the tradition of the greatest European piazzas. For the basis of the concept Studio Modijefsky chose seven unique elements which can be found in all the typical urban squares: landmarks, striking paving, fountains, stairs, merchant stalls, playgrounds and statues. Each of those objects has been translated into a contemporary architectural component, forming a new design language which links together the spaces forming the venue.

Medhurst Cellar Door and Winery / Folk Architects

December 10, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

Cellar Door
Medhurst Wines is a bespoke family-run winery in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. The Cellar Door is an extension to an existing building that seeks to expand the tasting experience and address the site in a broader context. The brief focused on immersing visitors in the Medhurst Wine experience whilst providing a clear connection with the surrounding landscape, vines, and wine production facilities. Through master planning, site analysis and extensive consultation with the client, it was established that a linear extension to the existing building was an effective intervention.
