The second floor of a centennial building in the heart of Madrid is transformed into a short-stay rental apartment. When the owner inherited her childhood home and returned 45 years later she found the house just as she remembered. She found an apartment divided into innumerable little tiny rooms, with high ceilings, a long corridor, tiled floors, and ocher-colored windows. This was her childhood home, but this time she saw something different: potential and a challenge. The Project of renovation pursues two fundamental premises: to Highlight the characteristic features of the original construction and to Rethink its distribution to accommodate it for its contemporary use.

L264 Office / FFWD Arquitectes

December 25, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

The space for the FFWD Arquitectes new office is located in a singular building at Barcelona’s Eixample. It is an industrial building that was originally intended for workshops, and where we currently find a wide range of spaces and uses such as studios, workshops and showrooms. The building has a regular structure of columns and the separation of the different departments fits the structural grid. The space available is in a structural bay, going from the vertical communications hall to the rear facade of the building. As a result, we had an elongated space with an entrance of natural light in the opposite wall to the studio entrance.

Fuelle Roga House / OMCM arquitectos

December 23, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

This small project is located in a residential neighbourhood in Asunción of low density and relative tranquillity, where the owner commissioned us to renovate an old house of almost vernacular characteristics and in quite deteriorated conditions, for profitable purposes. Therefore, our efforts were focused on developing a discreet project that would find a way to recycle the house, allowing it some flexibility in the spaces while fitting into a somewhat tight budget. The initial situation presented us with an unfunctional fragmented typology of clogged and annexed spaces, a lack of ventilation and natural lighting, walls without foundations and with noticeable humidity, considerable structural fissures and other anecdotal surprises, such as the presence of a cesspit in one of the rooms.

ASSET Restaurant / Bates Masi + Architects

The architectural character of Manhattan is a palimpsest. As buildings are renovated and added to over centuries traces of each iteration remain, expressing themselves as an oddly placed column or a texture that bleeds through successive layers of paint. In the renovation of 329 Columbus Avenue to create Asset restaurant, we sought to excavate the existing space in search of unique textures and hints of the past that would enrich the guest experience.
