Squareworks presents TARQ, a contemporary art gallery project located between two significant and historical urban fabrics of Mumbai. The site is on the ground floor of a 120-year-old building sitting at the eastern edge of the Victorian Gothic style urban fabric, and to the west across from maidan, art deco architecture built between the 1930s to 40s reflecting the modern movement and development of Mumbai. The restoration and transformation of this historic structure into a contemporary art gallery space required careful consideration of its historical significance and integration with modern elements.

Another Seedbed: From Domesticity to Hospitality / Ignacio G. Galán + Jesse McCormick + Future Projects

Another Seedbed is a new node in the cultural fabric of New York City. Resulting from the renovation of a space in a former hat factory located in a late-century cast iron building in Brooklyn, the project keeps the impetus of earlier occupations of industrial spaces in the city by facilitating different forms of hospitality through artistic performances and other public events that the owner organizes–countering the tendency towards normative domesticities that characterize current trends in the renovation of former industrial spaces in large metropolises.

An art collector’s residence in Riebeek-Kasteel – Our clients are art enthusiasts who, over many years, built up a notable collection of South African Art. Their dream was to build a home in South Africa where they could display their art. Their brief was simple: design a live-in art gallery. First, it was to be an art gallery and, secondly, a home—the setting for their vision – the quaint town of Riebeek Kasteel. The couple fell in love with the town itself and the thriving local art community, and the ERF location on the village’s main road would make it possible for the public to enjoy the collection on occasion.

D Gallery / P.I Architects

Located on a popular 4x25m plot of townhouses, the original design brief was to have a complex function including a restaurant-residential – gallery. However, later the function was limited to the gallery and a small lounge space for friends, along with the requirement to be able to convert the function in the future without touching the building frame too much. Based on that, the design team decided to place the staircase adjacent to the skylight in the middle of the house, so that later when there is a reconversion, still ensure that the spaces in the building are airy and have natural light.

A space of luminosity, an atmosphere of subdued light, whose objective is to promote well-being. A place where light is the protagonist not only during the day but as an urban lamp at night. A gallery designed to welcome, celebrate meetings and fulfill the wishes of people looking for qualified spaces to live.

Housed on Level 10 of ANZ Docklands in Melbourne, the ANZ Centre Gallery is intentionally designed to feel a little bit magical, a portal transporting visitors into a world away from the workplace – It is a calming space presenting a previously less visible art collection, as a showcase within the ANZ Open House suite of amenities and work-meets-culture experiences. The gallery was strategically conceived as a way for ANZ to bring its people, clients, collaborators, and community together to celebrate its expansive collection of Australian and international art. Here, works are brought out of the archive and showcased on regular rotation.
