Extension of the Stadtcasino Basel / Herzog & de Meuron

July 8, 2020 Paula Pintos 0

The Rise of the Cultural Mile in the 19th Century and its Urban Demise in the 20th Century. In the course of the 19th century, the town fortifications and the adjoining buildings of the former Barfüsser and St. Magdalen Convents were demolished, making room for what we would nowadays call a Cultural Mile along the southern fringe of Basel’s Old Town. These developments reflect the urban and architectural vision of those times.

Malvern Garden House / Taylor Knights

July 4, 2020 Paula Pintos 0

Malvern Garden House is a highly-considered adaption of an existing 1930’s period home in a hilly suburban pocket, with a new pavilion embedded within the terraced garden to the rear. Most fundamentally, the design response seeks to actively reposition the home within its unique site, thereby strengthening and celebrating the bonds of the everyday architectural experience within its immediate, lived-in landscape.

Writer’s Shed / Matt Gibson Architecture + Design

July 3, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

Camouflaged and nestled into a modest residential garden, the Writers Shed provides an isolated workspace for a creative writer. The outbuilding sits in the seldom utilised back corner of the block, located in a quiet, leafy residential suburb in Melbourne’s South East. Masquerading itself amongst the garden landscape and boundary fences the shed is one with the landscape – a living part of the garden rather than an imposition on it. The successful coverage of Boston Ivy, accompanied by a collection of lush, verdant plantings was developed in collaboration with Landscape Garden Designer Ben Scott. Stepping inside, a generous and simple ply clad workspace reveals itself, with a framed window looking back to the garden. A mirrored doorway opens out to the rear bluestone laneway providing an option for deliveries and access. Sitting inside at the desk there’s a certain inherent delight in bunkering down to look out to the garden and house beyond.

Extension of the Cemetery of La Mojonera / Palenzvela Taller de Arquitectura

June 30, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

The extension of the Cemetery of La Mojonera is on a triangular-shaped plot of 1,500 square metres, deeply immersed in the “sea of plastic” of Almeria, also rounded by a network of roads that facilitate the passage of the farmers. In this context, an extension is carried out next to the existing cemetery which will be composed of different phases of construction according to the needs of the town. The new cemetery will have a new access, which will lead to a hall that connected to the area of niches or burials, working as a joint that links the old part with the projected new one. The access courtyard is delimited by white walls, a fountain and an old irrigation ditch, which is preceded by a large gate that allows new access to the cemetery.

Town House in Antwerp / Sculp[IT]

June 27, 2020 Cristian Aguilar 0

A town house ready for the next century. The façade keeps its historical function and bourgeois radiance, neatly in line. The contrast with the rear is ample. All incorrect additions are replaced by a unit of space and light. Daylight and contact with the garden are introduced. The simple, contemporary glass rear has the world’s largest pivoting window – 3 meters wide by 6 meters high – and makes this house ready for the future.

Guest House Pavilion 1401 / Nordest Arquitectura

June 24, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

The assigned project consisted in the construction of a guest pavilion as an extension of the main house. Our first thought was to create a shape clear and simple, a cuboid placed in the middle of the forest, changing as less as possible the surrounding characteristics, as if it had always been there.

The combination of two Parisian apartments to create a unique family dwelling Our brief was to create a new home for a family with two young children, who wanted to stay in central Paris but who also wanted the kind of fluid, open, light-filled spaces not often possible in apartment liv-ing. Two adjoining apartments have been combined to create a single family sized flat along with a well-designed studio for rental.
