Oak & Alder House / Hybrid

Nestled in Seattle’s Central District neighborhood, Oak & Alder celebrates the city’s past while setting the tone for its future. Complete with a rusted corten steel exterior, massive windows, and a pitched roofline, the townhome doesn’t look like other multi-family structures around town—and that’s exactly what the project’s developer, architect, and builder, Hybrid, aimed to achieve.

Apartment Copan Block E / Valdivieso Design

This approximately 70-square meter apartment is located in the E section of the iconic Copan Building, São Paulo, Brazil. The project was conceived with the basic premise of enhancing the main architectural elements of Niemeyer’s project. Tied to the such a notion, the spaces were organized and designed according to the new resident’s needs.

Glasshouse Celeste / IDIEQ

Atop a hillock, overlooking a panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks, the clients, Sourabh Upadhyay, Aman & Ankush Rohilla knew from the very start that the house should be designed more to look out, rather than be looked at. Driving up from Jim Corbett National Park towards Ranikhet, a tiny spiraling road opens to this meadow-like soft landscape where Himalayan mules were the only help to carry materials to the top. Since the challenge at hand was to build the glass pavilion in this untouched wilderness, where transportation was a major setback, it was decided to keep the whole house at one level, avoiding excessive vertical structural elements.

Stanford University School of Medicine Center for Academic Medicine / HOK

HOK designed the Stanford Center for Academic Medicine to provide respite for staff that works long hours in hospitals and clinics. It also accommodates their academic and research endeavors. The facility includes offices, conference rooms, collaboration, and education spaces, a fitness center, and a restaurant-style café. HOK’s team helped the medical school’s leaders plan their new office space and develop a detailed program that would accommodate all clinical faculty and staff in a highly collaborative work environment.

The project is based on responding to a specific collective housing program. Inserted in a subdivision located in the new area of Aveiro city, the land is located between two lots, which are not built yet. As such, the project idea is based on marking the highlight of a new design in this new area.

Aichermagazin Isny Pavilion / Atelier Sunder-Plassmann + Schnell&co architekulabor

During the 1970s Otl Aicher developed a corporate design for the city of Isny im Allgäu, based on his image about a „city in black and white“ („Stadt in Schwarz und Weiß“). A series of 136 pictograms, portray the town, the landscape, and the region in black and white. Since then the work of Aicher has lost neither its sharpness nor its expressiveness and today still forms an integral part of the town‘s corporate identity.

Tradition and innovation. The design of the villa wants to start from these characteristics site to define that relationship with the place with which to enter into symbiosis. The main purpose was not to design a house “in the manner of the ancients”, but with the spirit of the ancients, taking advantage of new technologies while respecting the proportions, colors, and use of materials that create an intimate and lasting relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Gilder Center Northfield Mount Hermon School / Flansburgh Architects

Evangelist Dwight Lyman Moody founded Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies in 1879 and Mount Hermon School for Boys in 1881. Beginning as two institutions to educate young people with limited resources, Northfield and Mount Hermon later became a coeducational schools in 1971. NMH enrolled students of all races and ethnicities, as well as prioritized providing opportunities for students of color.
