Screen House / Kiron Cheerla Architecture Design

The project site, situated alongside a lush green park, presented an opportunity for the client and architect to fully leverage its natural surroundings. Designed to seamlessly blend with its environment, the project uses simple and natural materials. Opting for Shou Sugi Ban charring on the exterior achieves a double win: the burnt wood recedes visually into the landscape, and the material’s scale complements the surrounding architecture. Furthermore, the charred layer offers low-maintenance durability. The screen provides visual separation from neighboring buildings while also effectively blocking harsh sunlight from entering the structure by integrating landscape vegetation growing on the screen.

The 55-year-old apartment is located in the beach town of Hayama, southeast of the ever-popular tourist area of Kamakura on the Miura Peninsula. The owners contacted us with the request to transform the space into a bright and easy-to-take-care home. The apartment building in which it is located, with big windows facing a large garden, had plenty of potential to fulfill their desire.

KLE Sanskruti Pre-primary school, Nipani / Shreyas Patil Architects

A square with a triangular top hat sure does make a home. A similar approach has been taken in sketching this school. Built like a toy house, the massing has been designed with certain innocence in its rather rudimentary shapes and geometries. Entire forms of playful construction in projected cantilevers with recessed windows make the elevation of the school block.

Driven by an urge to reunite with his family, our client approached us with a requirement to construct a family home on his ancestral farmland in Vikramgadh, Palghar, Maharashtra. The land boasted an existing paddy plantation and a variety of fruit-bearing trees, like fig, mango, and other local species. Observing the rapid transformation of the surrounding village, where traditional homes were being replaced with high-maintenance contemporary structures unsuitable for the local tropical climate, our client sought to reconnect with his roots upon returning from abroad. His aim was to immerse himself in the close-knit village community and embrace the natural surroundings that his homeland offered, fostering a sense of belonging with his ancestral land.
